After being deemed incompatible with the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act’s child restraint system standards, Combi Usa Inc. issued a recall for three of their child safety seat products. According to the North Carolina-based company’s press release, specific models of their Coccoro, Zeus Turn and Zeus 360 child safety seats (an estimated 33,000 total) are being recalled due to potentially defective restraints.

We here at the office all have children and are very concerned about the safety of our kids and other Louisiana kids while traveling in vehicles. The recent car seat recall brings this in sharp focus.

For more information on car seat safety, please consider to following tips:

  • Heed all height and weight limits
  • Refer to the car seat instructions for proper installation
  • Consult a certified child passenger safety technician to check your car seats(frequently the fire department will perform this task for you)
  • Follow all instructions for cleaning and or washing car seat covers as it could compromise the integrity of the car seat parts in the event of a collision
  • Check to make sure that car seat covers (if used) do not hinder the function of the car seat harness
  • Make sure the car seat harness is close to the child's body at all times (this is where bulky winter gear could get in the way)
  • Check the car seat for safety recalls when purchasing new or used equipment

If you and your child have been in a car accident, and use one of these child safety seats, you may have a claim against the manufacturer. It is always in your best interest to contact an experienced personal injury attorney.
